    Short Biography

Sui Fang, Senior Engineer at the Shanghai Institute of Materia Medica, Chinese Academy of Sciences, currently leads the external testing services of the Ion Channel Platform. With over 10 years of experience in molecular biology, cell biology, and patch-clamp electrophysiology, she focuses on technical support for drug discovery targeting ion channels and GPCRs, including in vitro cardiac safety assessment, high-throughput screening, mechanism of action studies, and stable cell line development. She has participated in several national major scientific research programs, such as “Key technologies for ion channels” and “Discovery and pharmacological evaluation of allosteric modulators of ion channels,” with 11 published papers and 5 patents. She is proficient in advanced ion channel functional technologies including 384-well automated patch clamp, QPatch (48/16HTX), and FDSS/uCELL, and has provided technical services to the Shanghai Institute of Materia Medica and over 100 pharmaceutical R&D organizations across China.

Presentation Topic: High Throughput Screening and Novel Drug Development for Ion Channels
Ion channels are essential membrane proteins that regulate cell membrane potential and signal transduction. They play pivotal roles in the pathogenesis of numerous diseases, including neurological disorders, cardiovascular diseases, pain, and cancer. As emerging yet challenging drug targets, ion channels represent a promising frontier in innovative drug development. Due to their structural complexity and tightly regulated activity, screening for ion channel modulators presents unique challenges. This talk will introduce a comprehensive approach to high-throughput screening (HTS) systems targeting ion channels, including the application of fluorescence imaging and automated electrophysiological platforms such as FDSS and automated patch clamp. By sharing actionable strategies and practical experiences, this talk aims to help researchers improve the efficiency and success rate of ion channel drug discovery.
