    Short Biography

Prof. Liao Ping is the principal investigator and head of the Calcium Signaling Laboratory at the National Institute of Neuroscience, Singapore. He is also a joint Associate Professor at Duke-NUS Medical School, Singapore. For the past 20 years, his lab has focused on research into neurological diseases, with a particular emphasis on the TRPM4 channel and the voltage-gated calcium channel Cav1.2. His lab was the first in the world to develop a TRPM4-specific blocking antibody for the treatment of neurological diseases such as stroke, vascular dementia, and traumatic brain injury. Currently, the antibody has been successfully humanized and is being tested using the TRPM4 humanized rodent model. For Cav1.2, we have identified isoforms that are closely related to the disease and are crucial to its progression. A clinical trial using calcium channel blocker is under preparation for the management of stroke.
